Stylist magazine features Executive Coach Nicola Bunting

This week’s issue of Stylist magazine included an insightful feature with executive coach Nicola Bunting of La Vita Nuova.

In the feature Nicola describes the realities of life as a successful executive coach, including some days when she starts at 5.30am. It’s an interesting article because unlike many features on executive coaching which focus on visualisations and positive thinking, Nicola comes across as very down to earth and hard-working, and clearly loves what she does.  And having been working as an executive coach for over 12 years, it’s not surprising that her experience in the profession shines through.

Much of what Nicola describes is very familiar – starting off coaching relationships by giving clients a personality profile and conducting 360 degree appraisals, as well as balancing a private coaching practice with corporate clients.  At HRM Coaching we have a similar approach, albeit with different profiling tools.

Tips for Choosing an Executive Coach

A common misconception about executive coaches is that they just do one to one executive coaching. This is something that Nicola Bunting aims to clarify when she talks about also offering psychometric profiling, 360 degree feedback appraisals, team development days, weekends away and teaching time management skills.

When choosing an executive coach to work with, it’s good to select someone who can be flexible and has many strings to their bow, particularly if you are aiming to work with them within your organisation over a period of time.

One of our articles on this site called How to Choose an Executive Coach offers useful tips when looking for someone to either work with as a personal executive life coach or to work with several people within your company.

Tips for Aspiring Executive Coaches

It would be useful for aspiring new coaches to take a leaf out of Nicola’s book and approach their new coaching career professionally. Unfortunately entrants into the coaching profession can find it filled with hype and exaggerated claims about earnings and the ease with which people will sign up to in-depth coaching programmes.  It’s one of the reasons I wrote my book Niche Marketing for Coaches – to show coaches how to treat it as a business and develop a solid strategy for attracting clients.

£1,000 Grant for Coaching ends soon

Act now to claim a £1,000 grant for coaching, mentoring or training.

Leadership & Management Grants of £1,000 – ends December 2010

If your organisation has between 5 and 249 staff, you may be eligible for a grant of £1,000 to spend on leadership & management training, coaching or mentoring.

This is a great opportunity to up-skill – both for you and your staff:

  • Are your business skills and knowledge up to date (or are you still relying on skills you learned on a course 10 years ago)?
  • Who in your business could improve their management style?
  • Are the members of the senior management team ready to inspire and lead staff through changes?
  • Are you being as strategic as you could be?
  • Do you throw new managers in at the deep end without any training on how to get the best out of their people?
  • Are you holding your business back by not delegating? You know: “If you want something done right, you need to do it yourself”.

HRM Coaching can explain how the grant works, show you the options available to you and help you to apply for the funding with the help of a Leadership & Management Skills Adviser.

The grant is government funded through the Skills Funding Agency.

How much is available?

You may be eligible for a grant of up to £1,000.

The way it works is that the first £500 is a straight-forward grant and then a further grant of up to £500 is available on a match funded basis, i.e. you put in £500 and it’s matched with a grant of £500.

Most people like to take the maximum amount available and get £1,500 worth of training/development for an investment of £500 – the company pays £500 and you can get a grant of £1,000.

What can I use the grant for?

Our services include:

  • One-to-one training, coaching and mentoring
  • In-house training and workshops
  • Open programmes and training courses

Our style is very down-to-earth and we focus on what helps you and your staff to get the skills you need, when you need them.

The grant can be used on a variety of options and if we are not able to provide you with the kind of training or support that you need, your Leadership & Management Skills Adviser will put you in touch with someone who can.

When does the grant end?

You need to have had a meeting with a Leadership & Management Skills Adviser and confirmed your Personal Development Plan before the end of December 2010.  You then only have until 15th March 2011 to submit your paperwork and claim your grant.

Where is the grant available?

Throughout England.  HRM Coaching works mainly with companies in London and the South East.

The grant is issued on a first come, first served basis and can be withdrawn at any time, so to avoid disappointment, apply today.
